Master Gemologist Appraiser ®

Paul Thompson is a Graduate Gemologist (GG), a title conferred upon completion of required courses and examinations in the theory and practice of gemology by the Gemological Institute of America.  He is also an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) with the American Society of Appraisers, and a Master Gemologist Appraiser®. These certifications were awarded as a result of successfully passing the Society's intensive written and oral examinations, submission of sample appraisals, and other qualifying criteria required by the Society's International Board of Examiners. Mr. Thompson is re-accredited with the American Society of Appraisers until Aug 15, 2010, and adheres to their mandatory accreditation program.

A past member of the International Board of Examiners of the American Society of Appraisers, he is on the teaching staff of the Personal Property Discipline as well as a member of Gems and Jewelry Committee. Mr. Thompson has been one of the developers of the Master Gemologist Appraiser® curriculum offered by the American Society of Appraisers. He is past Chairman of the International Gems and Jewelry Discipline Committee of the American Society of Appraisers. He was the Personal Property Chair in the Los Angeles Chapter (1991-1993), Treasurer (1993-1995), Vice President (1995-1997) and President (1997-1998).

Mr. Thompson began his practice as an appraiser in 1976. In 1980, he founded Paul Thompson Co. Jewelers, Jewelry Appraisers and Brokers, located in Los Angeles on Larchmont Boulevard. It is a full-line jewelry store, which also offers antique and contemporary gifts. He is past president of the Larchmont Service Club and the Larchmont Boulevard Association.
